Taping guestion

Posted: Sunday, July 29, 2012 10:01 PM Quote
I am looking at the rt. rear window of my 52 PA-20, the curved one, and am wondering if it gets taped and if so how to get the tape to curve that way. Any suggestions?

Make sure NOT to glue the fabric to the outside of the window frame. Only glue it to the inside of the "U" channel.

Typically no finishing tape is used around the d window.

If you want to put a finishing tape around the D then mark a line about 1.25" from the ID of the frame, brush a bed layer of glue about 1" wide around the frame. Overlay a scrap piece of fabric across the window and tack it down into the bed layer of glue. Trace the line up through the overlapping fabric. Brush glue down through the weave sealing the weave out past the trim line. Make sure to pull the fabric back up off the underlying piece of fabric back about 1/4-3/8" inside the trim line and let dry. When dry cut along the trim line and iron the edge back down. Brush glue down under the remaining 1/4'-3/9" edge of the overlap and wipe off. Then cut out the inside and glue down into the "U" channel window frame.
